Destination Wedding South Africa Safari locations
The wedding venues for a destination wedding in South Africa can be very diverse. For a safari you can think of the wooden deck of the lodge, a wooden platform in a tree, a waterdrink for animals, a large lake, under an old tree, on a rock in a dry riverbed, etc.
Wedding locations suggested by the Ulusaba team
The Lower Deck at Rock Lodge: This is the most popular weddinglocation with a view to die for! We can time it just right so you can exchange vows with the sunset as a gorgeous backdrop
The Mabrak Dry Riverbed at Safari Lodge: A picture postcard setting surrounded by African jackalberry trees.
The Beach: At the far side of Xikwenga Dam near the Safari Lodge is an area that is called ‘the beach’. This spot is very exclusive – and perfect for smaller weddings
Xikwenga Dam: Another great spot at the dam is on the side banks; this spot is so private that no one can see you except maybe the hippos.
The Grassland Spot: A clearing tucked away in the bush close to Marula, our bush dinner site, and ideal for larger numbers
Locations with great views
Rock Lodge Lounge: An all-round winner! Large windows make for stunning views without losing the cosy atmosphere of this intimate space
Safari Lodge Wine Cellar Deck: Safari Lodge has its own wine cellar stocked with a full selection of outstanding South Africa
Spice up your wedding with local performers
To add more flavour to your already stunning wedding it is possible to spice up your wedding with the perfomers from the region. Just to give you a few examples of the options that are out there:
• Local Marimba Band: these groups consist of about eight members who play homemade xylophone for background dinner music but also great for parties. Previous guests have danced the night away to these sounds.
• Shangaan Dancers: the Shangaan are the area’s predominant tribe. They will entertain you with beautiful African inspired-tribal singing and dancing to kick off the celebrations and to get everyone up on the dance floor.
• Gumboot Dancers: a tradition born from the workforce in the South African mines: 12 traditional Shangaan dancers in mining overalls, hard hats and gum boots perform a traditional mine dance which consists of a hand-clapping ritual along with slapping of the boots to create a fantastic sound and beat.
