The Journey to experience luxury and sustainability at Kura Boutique Hotel

Our trip to this luxury vacation destination in Costa Rica started with an exciting journey. We navigated the steep, curving roads in a 4×4, passing stunning waterfalls and breathtaking views while it was raining cats and dogs. Despite the countless Instagram photos and videos I saw in anticipation, the reality far exceeded expectations. Even with the pouring rain and clouds it was some kind of magical upon reaching the top. There we were greeted with refreshing towels and a delicious cocktail, setting a perfect tone for our stay. We were really going to experience luxury and sustainability at Kura Boutique Hotel.

A Commitment to Luxury and Sustainability in a Local Community

What truly sets Kura Boutique Hotel apart is its determined commitment to sustainability. These are not just hollow words; the hotel actively engages with the local community. A heartwarming example in one of the hotels is a gardener who rose to become a manager, highlighting Cayuga’s dedication to local empowerment and education. At the Cayuga collection they are proud to train local staff themselves and they do not make use of expats.

They utilize locally sourced materials and celebrate local culture, evident in the Borucan influences throughout the property.

Sustainability Initiatives

Experience luxury and sustainability at Kura Boutique Hotel in Costa Rica. Kura embraces sustainability in every aspect of its operations, aiming to harmonize with the natural environment, ensure the well-being of guests and staff, and positively impact local communities. Their deep-rooted philosophy in conservation and community involvement is admirable.

Uvita is a small town on the South Pacific Coast where no culinary schools exist. This was the reason that   the Kura Online Community Baking Program was created during Covid. It’s part of Kura’s continuous effort to support the community. Its purpose is to teach baking fundamentals to the next generation of Uvita bakers. They belief that education is the best way to make an impact on people’s lives so this program was created at Kura.

Luxurious Accommodations and Unique Design

Owned by Architect Martin and Biologist Alejandra, Kura offers a unique blend of boutique-hotel style and tropical-minimalist luxury. Using locally sourced materials like gray slate and teak wood, the hotel exudes a glamorous yet natural ambiance.

The jungle suites are designed for romance, featuring custom-built glass rain showers in open living spaces. Each suite boasts a private terrace with a double hammock and a custom “floating bed.” One of my favorite details was the outdoor bar on the terrace, complete with a minibar and coffee and tea facilities. It’s an ideal spot to relax and take in the breathtaking views. The rooms are equipped with a Nespresso machine, wine cooler, binoculars for bird watching, and a complimentary iPad with Wi-Fi for sharing those envy-activating photos. The turndown service adds a romantic touch with soft red lighting and candles.

Amenities and Relaxation

Our first evening before we enjoyed an appetizing dinner we started with a spicy cocktail named Guaro Vaquero. Cacique Guaro is a sugar cane- based liquor and is the best-selling distilled spirit in Costa Rica. It is known as “Costa Rican liqueur”.

Fresh and Sustainable Seafood: Thanks to the Dock to Dish program, we enjoyed fresh, sustainably caught seafood directly from local waters. This game-changing initiative connects us closely with local fishermen, ensuring no over-fishing or species-targeting. It’s a perfect addition to the luxurious experience at Kura. The hyper-modern building, with its bamboo ceilings and rain-resistant yet cozy furnishings, feels inviting and warm.

The next day’s sunshine was perfect for lounging by the infinity pool. We felt so lucky because the day before it had been raining the whole day. The top terrace features a large telescope, allowing guests to spot rare birds with the help of the attentive staff. The sunset here is spectacular, especially with a drink in hand. The hotel also offers massages and a range of experiences.

Culinary Delights

Dining at Kura is a highlight, offering a mix of local Costa Rican dishes and comfort food. Standout items include various carpaccios and the traditional “chifrijo.” Breakfast ranges from local favorites like gallo pinto to my personal favorite classic eggs benedict and it could not have been more perfect with the sunshine and the view on the sea and the infinity pool.

Exclusivity and Privacy

With just a few rooms you can experience luxury and sustainability at Kura Boutique Hotel in Costa Rica. It feels like a private villa. Many guests go to the beach in Uvita or do an activity like hiking, surfing or paddle boarding during the day, which meant we had the whole pool to ourselves. The complimentary minibar (excluding alcoholic drinks) adds to the luxury. The hotel is a popular spot for honeymooners who enjoy special sunset dining arrangements, enhancing the romantic atmosphere.

Rooms and Facilities

Kura Boutique Hotel, a member of the Cayuga Collection, offers adult-only accommodations with a garden and a bar.
